Position Title: Vice President - Advancement

The Museum of Nature and Science seeks a Vice President – Advancement to plan, manage, and implement fund-raising and marketing strategies for a $7-million annual budget and the completion of a $155MM capital campaign for a new site and expanded museum. The Museum has served families of the DFW region and visitors from around the world for over 65 years through hands-on exhibitions on natural science related issues. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this senior management position will supervise a staff of six to eight people and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the fund-raising programs. The Vice President – Advancement is responsible for implementing a multi-faceted annual fundraising campaign, including major gift solicitations, foundation and corporate support, special events and donor acquisitions. Applicant must also be knowledgeable in all methods of fundraising. Supervisory and management experience; technical expertise; and donor tracking knowledge are also required. The Vice President works closely with the Museum’s Board of Trustees and the Board’s development committee.
The Museum is seeking a seasoned professional with a minimum of 10 years of development and marketing experience, including staff management, team leadership, and budget oversight. A bachelor’s degree and capital campaign experience is required; experience with science or children’s issues and an advanced professional degree are a plus. Candidate must show evidence of strategic leadership, must have excellent written and oral communication skills, and must be able to articulate the museum’s mission and role to a wide range of audiences. Knowledge of computer-based development management tools is essential.
Responsibilities Include:
- Conceptualize and implement annual fundraising goals and annual fundraising plan, including the development of strategies to double annual revenue in next three years.
- Motivate and assist Board members to contribute to the success of the annual campaign.
- Revitalize Board Development Committee and work closely with its members.
- Support the CEO in the cultivation, solicitation and renewal of gifts.
- Supervise directors of marketing, membership and development.
- Manage fundraising effort in a way that maximizes efficiency and utilization of resources.
- Draft solicitation appeals, template proposals, reports and other development materials.
- Craft individually-tailored approaches for key prospects and donors.
- Work closely with Director of Marketing & Communications to integrate communications and fundraising efforts.
- Integrate grant making and education into fundraising goals and strategies.
- Serve as liaison with consultants and others as needed.
Qualifications:
- At least ten years of extensive fundraising experience, particularly in cultivating and soliciting major gifts and capital campaigns
- Proficiency in the elements of annual campaigns
- Experience in hiring and supervising staff
- Excellent communications skills
- Outstanding time management and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills; experience in Blackbaud/ Raiser’s Edge or equivalent essential
- Strong abilities in fiscal planning and management
- In depth knowledge of the Dallas community and its donors is preferred

Summary of Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions: Educator works to provide supplemental science education consistent with the Museum’s mission statement in the schools during the regular school day and at the museum during museum hours. Educator also serves as the primary resource for development of innovative Applied Sciences curricula (encompassing Engineering, Computer Science and Physics) and seeks to maintain a consistent approach to teaching Applied Sciences across all grade levels for MNS. Educator will also serve as coordinator for either: school trips, outreach programs, or after school programs.
Operational Impact: Helps to achieve the Museum’s mission by conducting educational programs off-site and in the museum and by developing innovative, experiential curriculum to supplement the curricular requirements of local schools.
Reports to the Director of Education
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as the primary oversight for all Applied Sciences curricula, as determined by Educator and the Director of Education. Responsible for purchasing and maintaining all material supplies utilized by Applied Sciences courses, and managing budget for those programs as determined by the Director of Education.
- Maintain a budget for either in-house, outreach, or after school programs. Budget numbers are generated in collaboration with the Director of Education and the Chief Financial Officer. Educator must prepare a monthly report including all budget revenue and expenditures (excluding payroll) and provide this to the Director of Education by the end of each month for inclusion in a month-end summary to be created by the Director. Educator will also assist Marketing in developing public materials for these programs.
- Research and develop curriculum in the area of Applied Sciences for broad-based application across all age groups served by MNS programs (Pre-K through 12). Educator is expected to create at least one new program each year and provide training for that program to other members of the educational staff. Educator is also expected to evaluate the success and current relevance of MNS Education programs and, if necessary, modify existing curriculum throughout the year.
- Present year round outreach, in-house, and afterschool supplemental science instruction consistent with the Museum’s mission and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Presentation of program is expected to be approximately 70 percent of Educator’s responsibility.
These duties are performed to satisfaction when students receive accurate information through researched-based instructional methods.
- Assist in the general workload of the Education Department to accomplish all short and long-term goals.
These duties are performed to satisfaction when the tasks of the Education Department are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Attend professional development and/or other conferences in various fields of Applied Sciences and serve as the Museum spokesperson in these areas if necessary.
- Participate in the planning and realization of various functions of the Museum of Nature & Science throughout the year that may occur during hours outside the scheduled work day. These events will number no more than 4 weekends per year, for which compensation time will be given.
- Other duties as assigned to assist museum staff, e.g. exhibition content development.
These duties are performed to satisfaction when the employee recognizes the importance of new, additional or periodic assignments as needed. Performs additional duties as directed and asks questions for clarification when needed. Takes on additional responsibilities and works in a positive manner with other members of MNS.
Essential Academic Requirements:
- Educator must have a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Engineering, Computer Science or Physics.
- Educator should have 3-5 years experience in classroom instruction and curriculum development.
- Educator must have a high-level understanding of computers and various software programs (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and is expected to have some supplemental experience with interactive data collection software and hardware.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Educator must be able to capably lift 25 pounds of equipment, bend comfortably at the knees and waist, twist, stand for extended periods of time (up to 3 hours) and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Department record.
Position Title: Exhibits Project Management Coordinator

Summary of Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions: The Museum of Nature & Science is currently developing 60,000 square feet of exhibits for a new science museum to open in 2012 in downtown Dallas, Texas. The exhibits Project Management coordinator will coordinate the exhibit development process with several exhibit design firms, the project architect (Morphosis), the museum exhibits and education teams, community committees providing content expertise for each exhibition, and several exhibit fabricator companies over a four year period. These exhibits will range from a Children’s Museum to interactive science and collections-based exhibitions, and STEM-focused exhibitions. The new museum will also build a state-of-the-art Temporary Exhibit Hall to ensure Dallas is ready to accept the best of traveling exhibitions.
The exhibits project management coordinator will ensure that the exhibit development process adheres to the project schedule and concludes the process within budget. This person will manage internal committees, external vendors, and community organizations.
Requirements:
- 8 -10 years experience project management in an exhibit design firm or museum.
- Strong knowledge of exhibit design and fabrication process, exhibition AV/technology, and educational theory.
- A proven ability to manage creative teams and many tasks and projects simultaneously.
- A passion for hands-on museum-based learning for all ages.
- Fluency with various software programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project Manager).
- College degree preferred.
Position Title: Director of Corporate Giving

Summary: The Director of Corporate Giving reports to the Chief Development and Public Affairs Officer (CDPA) and is a key member of the department’s team. The Director is responsible for identifying, expanding and stewarding the Museum’s relationships with the business community through its sponsorships, special projects, corporate membership program, annual and event fundraising for the Museum as well as the Expansion campaign.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage the Museum’s sponsorship program for permanent & traveling exhibitions, Museum-hosted fundraising events (Dinner in the Wild), IMAX films, festivals, lectures, etc. by identifying and securing contributions to underwrite costs of those activities;
- Manage the Museum’s Corporate Membership Program to raise unrestricted funds from the corporate sector;
- Manage relationships with sponsors and corporate members to ensure their interaction with the Museum including ongoing stewardship to engage them in future activities;
- Work with the Special Events and Membership Directors on Museum-hosted events to secure support and steward participating corporate donors;
- Conduct research on prospective and existing donors;
- Work with the CDPA Officer to create and manage relevant budgets;
- Support the CEO, the CDPA and Board of Directors in their fundraising efforts for operations and campaign;
- Work with the Development Services Coordinator to help ensure the accuracy of donor records, to maintain and expand database of potential donors, and all donor recognition and acknowledgements;
- Serve as liaison for the Museum in the corporate community including attending and participating in functions to increase the Museum’s visibility;
- Work with the Director of Marketing to help inform how the Museum positions itself to the DFW business sector
