The Nature Building

The Museum of Nature & Science’s Nature Building contains a myriad of versatile spaces appropriate for both small and large-scale occasions.

History and Architecture

This two-story stately 1936 Art Deco building’s limestone exterior features impressive pairs of striking pilasters scaling the height of the structure and decorative aluminum mullions on around many windows The spectacular interior nods at an era gone by, featuring a sweeping grand staircase ascending to a large landing and massive windows overlooking the grounds of Fair Park. You and your guests can mingle among the dinosaurs as you enjoy this grand location.

The Nature Building Lobby

Renters of Nature Building’s largest area, the spacious grand lobby, will find all the grandeur mentioned above that can be enhanced to fit many unique events. Downstairs accommodates 100-150 for a standing reception. Upstairs accommodates 150-200 for a standing reception.

Small Auditorium

Located on the second floor, the auditorium is equipped with VCR, DVD slide projectors, a 20-foot wall screen, podium, projector, and surround sound system. The room accommodates 50-60 guests theatre-style, 45 classroom-style, 70 seated dinner and 90 for a standing reception.

Conference Room

Located on the second floor, this mid-size room is well-equipped to serve as a meeting or event space. It accommodates 100 guests seated and 150 for a standing reception. (Dimensions: 33’ X 36’)

Verizon Room

Located on the second floor of the Nature Building, the intimate Verizon Room performs well as room for smaller events or meetings, accommodating 35 guests in classroom seating. (Dimensions 15’ X 36’)

Outdoor Venue

A modern twist on a classical style. This outdoor space is reminiscent of classical Greco-Roman amphitheatres and is comfortably tucked away outside the Nature Building. Located adjacent to the lower level of the Museum and planted with native flowers and trees, the two tiered amphitheater is perfect for outdoor picnics, small wedding ceremonies and cultural arts performances.


The Science Building

The Museum of Nature & Science’s Science Building contains a myriad of spaces appropriate for both intimate and grand occasions.

History and Architecture

The Science Building once housed the Dallas Medical Museum and was one of the first science museums in the nation. Still maintaining the building’s dedication to science, the building also stimulates appreciation for art and history with its architecture and landmark status.

In 1996 an addition was constructed to include the TI Founders IMAX® and added a colossal grand entrance that immediately captures the visitor’s attention and imagination.

The Science Building Lobby

The striking lobby is one of the most architecturally and decoratively impressive locations in the building. Upon entering the museum’s grand entrance, the visitor is met by high ceilings, large open spaces, windows overlooking the lagoon and floor-to-ceiling reminders that while artistically stunning, the building is still monument to science. The beautiful terrazzo flowing features a massive labeled rendering of the solar system that can also be viewed from the IMAX® stairway above the lobby. The constellations in the representation are beautifully depicted with flecks of mother-of-pearl and other colorful gemstones.

This area can accommodate up to 750 people seated (72” round tables) or 750 (4’ X 8’ rectangular tables). It is also capable of housing as many as 1,000 for a standing reception. (Dimensions: 12,900 sq. ft., Ceiling Height: 30’ high). Rental terms are for a 6-hour period including set up and tear down and includes tables and chairs from the Museum's in-house inventory.

IMAX® Theater

This state-of-the-art facility can seat 323 guests to view our IMAX® educational films. The IMAX® theater is also available after hours for other programs and larger than life PowerPoint presentations. Hand held wireless mic and multiple corded mics available. (Dimensions: 80’ diameter; 7,034 sq. ft.; 79’ dome). Rental terms are for a 6-hour period including set up and tear down, and include tables and chairs that from the Museum's in-house inventory.

Main Auditorium/Theatre/Foyer

Can accommodate 175 guests. LCD projector, VCR, DVD, hand held wireless mics, power point presentations and offers a stage for meetings and presentations. The opulent foyer was the original entrance for the museum and reflects a grand air of elegance. It is well-suited for registration, catering and receptions. (Dimensions: 69’ X 39’; 2,377 sq. ft.; Ceiling height: 17’) (Foyer: 20’ X 29’)

Our Classroom spaces are ideal for offsite meetings, team and staff building seminars and training sessions. All rooms have PowerPoint capabilities.

The Planetarium

Originally the Museum of Domestic Arts, then serving as The Science Place II, the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science’s Planetarium building is currently an astronomy and space education resource center. In the only public planetarium in Dallas, you’ll find an out-of-this world atmosphere accented by a space suit used for training astronauts, orbs hanging from the ceiling, and many hands on experiments that both entertain and serve as great conversation pieces for your soirée.

Great Hall

Our Planetarium can seat up to 175 guests theater-style in the great Hall Lobby and accommodate a small, intimate reception of 100 seated. (Dimensions: 1,400 sq. ft.)
