Volunteer Opportunities

The Museum of Nature & Science strives to recruit, develop and retain individuals and group liaisons from racially and culturally diverse backgrounds and persons with disabilities. We create an environment for all staff, academic credit interns, teen and adult volunteers and trustees that is conducive to creativity, growth, ingenuity, resourcefulness, imagination and inspiration. We believe in lifelong learning and a passion for discovery and innovation.

You are invited to apply to become a volunteer and join the excitement! We welcome home schooled students, release time school sponsored and corporate sponsored volunteers, in addition to individuals!   We will work with you to provide the opportunity you expect!

Why should I volunteer?

  • You want to share your enthusiasm for science and the natural world.
  • You like to have fun with others who share your passion.
  • We are thrilled to have your help!
  • You want to give back to our community.
  • You like working with children.
  • You get the chance to meet many new people and have many new opportunities.
  • Volunteers have discounts in the café and Science Store.
  • Volunteers receive a free individual membership for 1,000 hours of volunteering.
  • We appreciate you!

Teen and Adult Volunteer Job Opportunities
The Museum of Nature & Science offers individual volunteers opportunities to volunteer to complement your schedule! Depending on the day of the week and the time of day, there are a variety of opportunities from which to choose—from administrative help to engaging children to explore and imagine! Several volunteer positions do have age and knowledge requirements, but all positions are engaging and the need to give to the community is ongoing!

Summer Discovery Corps:

Donate your teen’s body to science!

The Museum of Nature & Science will host the third summer of the Discovery Corps, an exciting summer program for teens. Teens from the ages of 14 to 17 can get involved with MNS, providing valuable volunteer assistance and participating in fun activities.

Ten two-week sessions are available from early June through mid August. Teens will spend one week in the public galleries giving a variety of fun, science demonstrations and one week assisting in Summer Camp classrooms. An orientation will be held in early June that will include orientation, training sessions, and a scavenger hunt!  Meet other teens with the same goals and interests!

On select Fridays, lunch will be served during career talks given by local professionals that highlight careers in technology and science fields. This is an excellent opportunity to boost those college application résumés with volunteer service while also having a great time.

Please contact volunteers@natureandscience.org or call 972.201.0552 for more information and an application packet. The application packet consists of an application, extracurricular résumé, essay, science teacher’s recommendation, and interview. Applications need to be completed and turned in before an interview can be scheduled.

Discovery Corps is now closed for enrollment for 2010. Thanks to all who are participating! We're looking forward to a great summer of discovery!
